Prohibition

Downtown – Minneapolis

If you’re looking for the polar opposite of the aforementioned “hole in the wall” bar look no further. Prohibition, house on the top floor of the Foshay Tower of downtown Minneapolis offers views that turn the flat landscape of the Midwest into a stunning outlook of the downtown area. This bar was originally intended to be the penthouse escape of Wilber Foshay, one of the first Minneapolis entrepreneurial tycoons. Ready for the cool part? The bar has left the interior of the penthouse largely untouched, meaning while you drink your exquisitely crafted drink you can truely feel what it was like to ball out as a rich businessman or woman from the 1920’s, all without having to succumb to the final fate, a 15 year prison sentence, of Wilber Foshay after being convicted of running a pyramid scheme with shares of his own stock.

The interior as mentioned is stupid plush, it is the stuff that simpletons like myself should never have access to. There is nothing like being surrounded by rich mahogany furniture and leather-bound books as you drink a old-fashioned cocktail in your finely tailored suit to make you feel like you are much wealthier than you really are. Honestly, I think we all deserve to feel that way every once in a while right? I mean, how often can you go somewhere where is genuinely makes you feel good. One thing to note before you take a gander down there, is there is a dress code and it is rather strict, semi-formal will get you through the door but to really fit the bar and the crowd you’re best putting on your best impression of Don Draper.

I recommend starting the night here for a couple stiff cocktails with friends and/or family on a Saturday night, then after you have a good buzz going head downstairs to the first floor W-Lounge Living Room Bar, which maintains a similar level of high-class in a more modern format complete with a absurdly good bar and a good local DJ to take your night from “solid buzz” to “black-out what the fuck did I do”. Turn up Minneapolis, turn the fuck up ya’ll!
